PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – The grimy streets of Pensacola witnessed a major crackdown on illegal firearms as Alaisjah Dayshawn Perkins, 22, was hit with federal charges for unlawful transfer and possession of a machine gun. This is a stark reminder of the city’s ongoing battle against illegal arms trafficking.
The US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida announced that Perkins also faces charges for receipt, possession, transfer, and production of an unregistered firearm. The case has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer H. Callahan.
Perkins appeared before Magistrate Judge Hope T. Cannon on August 12, with his trial set to begin October 6 at 8:00 a.m. in the United States Courthouse in Pensacola. He faces a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment for each count.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protecting communities from violent crime. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Despite the serious charges, an indictment is merely an allegation, and Perkins is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
