A grave crime has shaken the community of Pembrook, Illinois, as 34-year-old Percy C. Jefferson pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment charging conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine. The shocking revelation was made public by United States Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton.
The illicit activities, which took place between February 2003 and April 27, 2006, involved the distribution of crack cocaine in Jackson and Jefferson Counties, Illinois. Jefferson, a fugitive until September 12, 2012, was arrested by members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Evidence presented at the plea hearing revealed that Jefferson was involved in the distribution of more than 840 grams of crack cocaine in the Murphysboro area. The revelation has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the severity of the crime and the impact it has on the residents.
Jefferson is currently being held without bond, pending a sentencing hearing scheduled for August 29, 2013. At that time, he faces a term of imprisonment ranging from 20 years to life, 10 years’ supervised release, and a fine of up to $20,000,000. The harsh punishment serves as a warning to those involved in similar illicit activities.
Eight co-defendants have previously been sentenced to prison terms ranging from 120 months to 288 months for their role in the crack cocaine conspiracy. The stark contrast in punishment highlights the gravity of the situation and the consequences of engaging in such crimes.
The investigation into the crack cocaine conspiracy is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) operation, conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Marshals Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson. The prosecution’s efforts have brought the perpetrator to justice, ensuring that the community is protected from the devastating effects of illicit drug trafficking.
