FBI, DOJ and Human Rights Commission to Host Hate Crime Forum
SIOUX CITY, IA – In a shocking move, United States Attorney Peter E. Deegan Jr. and the Sioux City Human Rights Commission have announced a community forum focused on protecting places of worship from hate crimes.
The event, set to take place on Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 5:30PM-8:30PM, will bring together leaders of the interfaith community, representatives of houses of worship, and other community stakeholders and members to discuss hate crime laws, identifying and reporting hate crimes, and best practices for creating safe and secure houses of worship.
According to sources, the event will conclude with a panel discussion featuring officials from the FBI, DOJ, the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Sioux City Police Department. The goal of the forum is to raise awareness about the dangers of hate crimes and to provide a platform for community leaders to come together and discuss ways to prevent such crimes.
The forum is open to the public and press, with photography permitted. A press release will be provided and interview opportunities will be available.
