⏱ 2 min read

Cornelius Cardez Bray, 31, and David Jerome Evans, 31, both of Birmingham, Alabama, were involved in a brazen pharmacy burglary in Kennett, Missouri, on March 13, 2025. The duo made off with 16,800 pills, including 7,500 hydrocodone pills and 7,500 pills containing benzodiazepine drugs. Bray acted as the driver, while Evans broke into the pharmacy. The heist was thwarted when a police officer spotted their car with Tennessee license plates and attempted to stop them.

Bray sped away, eventually crashing the vehicle, and fled the scene. However, he was later arrested, and officers found numerous pill bottles, a large blue crowbar, a black face mask, and Bray’s wallet and cell phone in the wreckage. Evans was arrested at the scene.

Both men pleaded guilty to one count of intent to steal a controlled substance and one count of possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone. Evans was sentenced to 78 months in prison, while Bray is scheduled to be sentenced on October 1. The Kennett Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Willis prosecuting.

The pharmacy burglary highlights the ongoing issue of prescription drug theft and abuse in the United States. The stolen pills have a significant street value, and their distribution can contribute to the opioid epidemic and other public health problems.
