Feroze Nazirbage, Oxycodone Diversion, New York 2024

White Plains, NY – In a sting operation that’s got the local community talking, pharmacy owner Feroze Nazirbage, 45, and physician Mordechai Bar, 55, were arrested yesterday and charged with illegally diverting oxycodone for cash.

According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, the two allegedly used their positions as healthcare professionals to fuel a common drug dealing operation.

“As alleged, Dr. Mordechai Bar and Feroze Nazirbage breached the trust that was placed in them to prescribe and dispense controlled substances only for legitimate medical purposes,” Williams said in a statement. “They allegedly used their positions as healthcare professionals as a cover for what amounted to no more than common drug dealing operations.”

DEA Special Agent in Charge Frank A. Tarentino III added, “The arrests today of Doctor Mordechai Bar and pharmacy owner Feroze Nazirbage are the result of the DEA’s commitment in pursuing those individuals who allegedly exacerbate the ongoing opioid crisis.”

HHS-OIG Special Agent in Charge Naomi Gruchacz said, “This physician and pharmacy owner are alleged to have illegally distributed controlled substances, which is behavior that could contribute to the ongoing opioid epidemic.”

The two are set to appear in White Plains federal court today, where they will face charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, a Schedule II narcotic, and other controlled substances.

The alleged scheme, which began in 2020, saw Nazirbage and Bar allegedly conspire to distribute oxycodone and other controlled substances without a legitimate prescription or patient medical examination, in exchange for financial compensation.

“Failing their ethical duty to do good, the defendants allegedly abused their positions in healthcare by serving as suppliers for a highly addictive narcotic while greedily pocketing the rewards,” said FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Smith.
