David Thompson, Bank Robbery, Pennsylvania 2024

PHILADELPHIA – A ruthless criminal by the name of David ‘David Thompson’ has been given a life sentence for orchestrating a terrorizing string of bank robberies that left a trail of fear and financial loss across Philadelphia.

In a courtroom drama that played out in front of U.S. District Court Judge Gerald A. McHugh, 23-year-old David Thomas received a staggering 192-month prison term. His criminal enterprise, which spanned from May to July 2015, resulted in the looting of $48,408 from various financial institutions.

The spree began on May 14, 2015, with the brazen theft at Wells Fargo, located at 52 North Bryn Mawr Avenue. Thomas struck again just two weeks later, with an accomplice, robbing the same branch of Wells Fargo on June 2.

Two more banks felt his wrath in the subsequent months, as Thomas and a gang descended upon TD Bank, first at 8600 Germantown Avenue on June 30, followed by another daring heist on July 15. On that latter occasion, Thomas displayed chilling cold-bloodedness by carrying a loaded semi-automatic pistol during the crime.

The investigation into these violent acts was a collaborative effort led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia and Lower Merion Police Departments. Assistant United States Attorney Eric A. Boden was tasked with bringing the criminal to justice.

With today’s sentence, Thomas faces a long stretch behind bars for his ruthless orchestration of financial terrorism that shook the city of Philadelphia.
