Muskogee, Oklahoma Man Sentenced to 60 Months for Cocaine Distribution

A 44-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 60 months imprisonment and 3 years supervised release for his role in a major cocaine distribution operation in Oklahoma.

Angel Vega, the defendant, was sentenced by The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, after being found guilty of violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(A) and Title 18, United States Code, Section 2.

The charges against Vega arose from an investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which revealed that the defendant had possessed with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance, on or about October 16, 2017.

According to the indictment, the defendant’s actions had a significant impact on the flow of illegal narcotics in the region, preventing hundreds of thousands of dosage units from reaching their intended destination and disrupting a major drug trafficking organization.

United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester praised the efforts of the law enforcement agents and the members of his office for their hard work and dedication to public safety, saying ‘Because of the diligent efforts of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the DEA, hundreds of thousands of dosage units of illegal narcotics were prevented from reaching their intended destination and a drug trafficking organization was disrupted.’

The defendant is currently being held in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility, where he will serve his non-paroleable sentence.
