Defendant Pleads Guilty to Accessing Child Sexual Abuse Material
CONCORD – In a shocking turn of events, Philip Longeway, 52, of Manchester, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty to accessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in federal court.
According to U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young, Longeway’s internet activity was monitored through special software while he was on federal supervised release for a previous conviction. During this time, chat communications were captured between Longeway and an individual who claimed to be 15 years old.
The monitoring software also captured screenshots of the minor engaging in a sexual act for Longeway during two separate Zoom video calls. The child, later identified as a 15-year-old from New Jersey, was referred to as ‘John Doe’ in court documents.
Longeway’s status as a repeat offender carries a significant sentence. The charging statute provides a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment, at least 5 years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.
Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kasey Weiland is prosecuting the case. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
