MOBILE, AL – Phyliss Joy Ferris, a 24-year-old woman from Wake Forrest, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for her role in a cocaine trafficking operation.
A federal court in Alabama handed down the sentence on April 21, 2025, following an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit.
The case against Ferris began on October 24, 2022, when a deputy with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office stopped her on Interstate 65 for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle.
Inside Ferris’ purse, officers found a bottle of ‘Blunt Bomb’, a substance used to mask the odor of marijuana. Ferris later admitted to purchasing the ‘Blunt Bomb’ to conceal the smell of marijuana in the vehicle.
As officers continued their search, they discovered a Ziploc bag wrapped in duct tape in the spare tire well. The bag contained 1007 grams of white powder, which was later confirmed to be cocaine by the DEA Laboratory.
Ferris was interviewed by a DEA Task Force Officer, during which she admitted to being paid to transport cocaine from Texas to North Carolina on behalf of an organization.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George F. May. The investigation was a joint effort between the DEA and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit.
Ferris’ sentencing serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat cocaine trafficking in the region. The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this and other cases as more information becomes available.
