Pierre Man Guilty of Marijuana Possession
Rider Sheard, an 18-year-old Pierre man, has admitted to knowingly and intentionally possessing a Schedule I controlled substance.
Sheard appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on February 6, 2013 and pled guilty to the Superseding Information that charged him with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, the charge stems from an incident that occurred on or about May 17, 2012, when Sheard was in possession of marijuana.
The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich is prosecuting the case, which has been set for sentencing on April 30, 2013. Sheard was released on bond pending sentencing.
The maximum penalty for conviction is 1 year of imprisonment, a minimum fine of $1,000 but not more than $100,000, or both; 1 year of supervised release and an additional 1 year of supervised release upon revocation.
Sheard’s case is a reminder that marijuana possession is a serious offense, carrying significant penalties.
