A Pine Ridge, South Dakota resident has been found guilty of a serious firearm-related crime, according to federal authorities.
Timothy George Buckman, 28, was convicted by a federal jury on June 26, 2013, for the felony offense of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The case against Buckman began in April 2013, following an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Justice Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
During the investigation, evidence was uncovered on the social media site Facebook, revealing pictures of Buckman holding a 12-gauge shotgun.
The firearm offense stems from an incident occurring between January and September 2012, when Buckman possessed the 12-gauge shotgun, despite having a prior felony conviction in 2009 that prohibits him from owning a firearm.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine, according to federal law.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah B. Collins, and a sentencing date has not yet been set.
The guilty verdict serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal firearm laws, and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.
