Pine Ridge Man Gets 10 Years for Domestic Assault

A Pine Ridge, South Dakota man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a brutal domestic assault that left a woman severely injured.

Daryl Lee Goings, 46, was convicted of Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on January 14, 2013.

According to court documents, Goings was indicted for Kidnapping and Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender on February 22, 2012, after causing substantial injury to a female during a domestic assault at Pine Ridge on September 3 or 4, 2011.

Goings has a history of violence, having been convicted on at least two separate prior occasions for Aggravated Assault and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

Despite his guilty plea to Domestic Assault by a Habitual Offender on September 27, 2012, Goings’ crimes were deemed serious enough to warrant a 10-year prison sentence, followed by 3 years of supervised release and a fine of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

Goings was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal after the sentencing, bringing an end to a long and grueling ordeal for the victim and her family.
