Xing Zheng Lin, Harboring Unauthorized Immigrants, Pennsylvania 2014

PITTSBURGH – A local restaurateur has been caught in a web of immigration violations. Steve Lin, also known as Xing Zheng Lin, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to harboring illegal aliens at his establishments.

Lin, 44, of McKees Rocks, PA, admitted to employing unauthorized immigrants at his Saga Restaurant locations in Monroeville, Robinson, and Bethel Park between 2009 and January 10, 2014. The plea came before Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.

Judge Conti has set sentencing for July 31, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. If convicted, Lin could face up to ten years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by the severity of the crime and any prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai is handling the prosecution on behalf of the government. The investigation leading to Lin’s arrest was a collaborative effort between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Lin faces significant consequences for his actions, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to cracking down on employment violations involving illegal aliens. Sentencing will be a pivotal moment in this case.

The saga of Steve Lin and his Saga Restaurant serves as a cautionary tale for business owners regarding the critical importance of adhering to immigration laws.
