Rafael Gary, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Pennsylvania 2026

Rafael Gary, a 31-year-old Pittsburgh resident, was busted by Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on December 9, 2022, in the East Hills section of the city. Gary was pulled over for a traffic violation, but officers soon discovered he was concealing illegal materials in his vehicle. A search warrant revealed a handgun, evidence of marijuana trafficking, and a cellular telephone. Gary, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Further investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) found that Gary had purchased the handgun through a female associate who was the registered owner. Gary’s prior convictions include federal charges for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number.

Gary pleaded guilty to one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition in federal court. He faces up to 15 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Sentencing is scheduled for October 22, 2026.

The case was investigated by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the ATF, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway.
