A Pittsburgh Man’s Guilty Plea to Lying on Firearms Purchases

Charles Douglas Warner, 26, has pleaded guilty to two counts of violating federal firearm laws. Warner made false statements to a federal firearms licensee in connection with his purchase of two firearms on July 19, 2009, and October 9, 2009. He was a fugitive from justice, had pending felony drug and firearms charges, and was an unlawful user or addicted to controlled substances at the time of the purchases.

Warner’s guilty plea was accepted in federal court by Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose. The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Warner’s sentencing is scheduled for October 15, 2013. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and Warner’s prior criminal history, if any.

Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaborative effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent, deter and prosecute gun crime.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the City of Pittsburgh Police conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Warner. Warner’s actions are considered a serious threat to public safety and demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law.
