Pittsburgh Man Pleads Guilty in String of Armed Robberies

A string of terrifying armed robberies plagued Pittsburgh and surrounding areas from November 2018 through February 2019, with seven businesses targeted in the City of Pittsburgh, Penn Hills, Turtle Creek, Oakmont, and Monroeville. According to court records, True Kinnon, 22, of Pittsburgh, led the brazen heists, brandishing firearms, including an assault-style rifle and a revolver, at employees and customers.

True Kinnon, age 22, pleaded guilty to nine counts in federal court, including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. United States District Judge William S. Stickman IV accepted the guilty plea.

During the robberies, Kinnon and his coconspirators took money and personal property from both employees and customers. The extent of the violent crimes shocked the community, leaving many to wonder how such brazen acts could occur in their own neighborhoods.

The successful investigation and prosecution of Kinnon is a testament to the collaborative work of local law enforcement agencies, including the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Monroeville Police Department, the Penn Hills Police Department, the Wilkins Township Police Department, the Oakmont Police Department, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney Doug Maloney is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. Judge Stickman scheduled sentencing for November 16, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., with a possible sentence of 14 years of incarceration, followed by three years of supervised release.
