Pittsburgh Man Sentenced for Cocaine Possession
A former Pittsburgh resident, Vernon Jackson, 50, was sentenced to 16 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.
Jackson was sentenced by Honorable Joy Flowers Conti after pleading guilty in May of this year. He is currently facing a supervised release violation for committing the offense while on federal supervised release, which will be determined at a later date.
On March 8, 2018, detectives from the City of Pittsburgh Police Narcotics and Vice Unit executed a search warrant at Jackson’s residence in Brookline. The search yielded multiple bags of cocaine, two digital scales, and drug packaging material from the kitchen of the home.
Jackson was on federal supervised release at the time of the search warrant execution for a prior federal conviction. He was originally sentenced to 151 months for that offense, but his sentence was reduced resulting in his early release.
Assistant United States Attorney Timothy M. Lanni is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). The task force is headed by the Drug Enforcement Administration and is comprised of members from the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
The OCDETF program provides critical federal funding and coordination to federal and state agencies, allowing them to work together to identify, investigate, and prosecute major interstate and international drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises.
Vernon Jackson, a former owner of Chauncy’s in Station Square, has a long history of drug-related offenses. His sentencing marks another chapter in his ongoing struggle with the law.
