Zachary Roth, Possession of Child Pornography, Pennsylvania 2024

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography. Zachary Roth, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Roth was arrested after an investigation by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Pennsylvania State Police revealed that he had been in possession of the explicit images and videos since March 21, 2007.

The court was advised that Roth knowingly possessed the images and videos, which were contained in computer graphics files. He could have faced a fine of up to $250,000 or both prison time and a fine.

The investigation was led by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Pennsylvania State Police, with assistance from Assistant United States Attorney Amy L. Johnston.

Roth is set to be sentenced on February 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. before Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti. The law provides for a total sentence of 10 years in prison or a fine of $250,000, or both.

Roth’s guilty plea and impending sentencing bring an end to a long and complex investigation that aimed to bring those responsible for the creation and distribution of child pornography to justice.

The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of child pornography and the importance of reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement.
