Platte Woods Business Owner Daniel Alan Ryan Sentenced for Tax Evasion
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a brazen display of tax evasion, Platte Woods, Mo., business owner Daniel Alan Ryan, 63, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison without parole for failing to pay over $600,000 in federal income taxes.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Jill A. Morris handed down the sentence, along with a $20,000 fine and $626,012 in restitution, plus interest, to the IRS. Ryan’s crimes spanned several years, leaving a trail of unpaid taxes in his wake.
Ryan is the owner of Ryan Roofing Systems, Inc., and Ryan Construction Systems, Inc. The tax evasion scheme was uncovered by IRS investigators, who began questioning Ryan in early 2012. The investigation continued over the following years, with Ryan admitting to failing to file income tax returns and pay his personal income taxes from 2009 through 2017.
According to court documents, the tax loss from 2009 through 2013 totaled $487,627, and an additional $138,385 from 2015 through 2017, for a total amount of $626,012. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Daly, with the IRS-Criminal Investigation agency leading the investigation.
Ryan pleaded guilty to one count of failing to file a tax return on December 5, 2023. The sentence is a harsh reminder that tax evasion will not be tolerated, and those who engage in such behavior will face severe consequences.
