Medford, Ore. — Portland high school teacher Edward Hernandez-Corchado, 27, has been locked away for 120 months in federal prison after a daring attempt to entice and coerce a minor online. The sentence also includes 10 years of supervised release.
Hernandez-Corchado’s downfall began when he communicated with an officer posing as a 15-year-old child on Snapchat, leading to his arrest in Bend, Oregon. Court documents reveal Hernandez-Corchado had a pattern of online sexual exploitation and even engaged in sexual conduct with two minors in Salem, Oregon.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Bend Police Department, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith R. Harper handled the prosecution. The defendant pleaded guilty to enticing a minor and attempted coercion and enticement of a minor charges.
Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006, played a role in bringing this predator to justice. For those who suspect child exploitation, HSI encourages reporting at (866) 347-2423 or online at report.cybertip.org.
Remember, federal law defines child pornography as any depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving minors. Such material is a grim testament to the actual crimes committed against children. For more information on this critical issue, visit www.missingkids.org.
