Centre County Man Sentenced to Probation for Marijuana Plants

A Centre County man is facing four years of probation for his role in a marijuana plant possession case, according to court documents.

Stephen D. Lamont, 36, was convicted of possessing at least 50 but less than 100 marijuana plants with the intent to distribute them. The plants were seized on May 9, 2011, in Patton, Pennsylvania.

Lamont was sentenced to four years of probation by United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson. The first three months of his sentence will be spent under home confinement with electronic monitoring.

Assistant United States Attorney John J. Valkovci, Jr., handled the prosecution of the case on behalf of the government.

The investigation that led to Lamont’s conviction was conducted by a joint task force headed by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Other agencies participating in the investigation included the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, the Cambria County District Attorney’s Office, the Carrolltown Police Department, the Patton Police Department, the Ebensburg Police Department, the Portage Police Department, and the Paint Township Police Department.

U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the task force for its work in bringing Lamont to justice. ‘I would like to commend the joint task force, headed by the Laurel Highlands Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Stephen D. Lamont,’ Hickton said in a statement.

Lamont’s sentence is a result of a conviction for possession of marijuana plants, a charge that carries significant penalties under federal law. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat marijuana-related crimes.
