Presiliano Gonzalez Berruete, Re-entry of Removed Alien, Maine 2017

Bangor, Maine – A Mexican citizen has been sentenced to prison for re-entering the United States after being removed.

Presiliano Gonzalez Berruete, 53, pleaded guilty on March 10, 2017, and was sentenced yesterday to one year and a day in prison to be followed by one year of supervised release for being an alien who entered the United States after having been removed and deported.

According to court documents, on February 12, 2017, Gonzalez Berruete arrived at the Canada Border Services Agency in Woodstock, New Brunswick, but was refused entry to Canada and transported to the Houlton, Maine Port of Entry.

A United States Custom and Border Protection (CBP) officer determined that the defendant was a citizen of Mexico who had been removed from the United States in 2010 after being convicted of a federal felony drug trafficking offense. The defendant returned to the United States without inspection at a place that was not designated for entry.

The case was investigated by CBP.

Gonzalez Berruete’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea, which was accepted by Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. The case was investigated by the United States Custom and Border Protection (CBP) and the Department of Homeland Security.

The defendant will serve his prison sentence followed by one year of supervised release. The exact date of his release from prison and his supervised release status will be determined by the court.
