Gulfport, MS – The grimy details of a drug conspiracy have hit the courts as Ricardo Roman Rivera Santana, 32, from Puerto Rico, pleaded guilty to shipping over 2000 grams of methamphetamine across state lines.
According to court documents, an investigation was launched in Mississippi in 2021 after agents identified Rivera-Santana as the sender of two packages. These packages contained a significant amount of methamphetamine, totaling 1043.9 grams at 95% purity and 975.4 grams at 97% purity.
The defendant, now awaiting sentencing on October 10, 2024, faces a daunting sentence ranging from ten years to life in prison. His previous co-conspirator, John Michael Villafana-Mendez, was sentenced to 169 months for his role in the drug ring.
U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee and Assistant Special Agent Anessa Daniels-McCaw of the DEA spearheaded the announcement. The Drug Enforcement Administration, Pascagoula Police Department, and Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics are on the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Erica Rose leading the prosecution.
As the justice system grapples with another high-profile drug trafficking case, it underscores the relentless effort to combat organized crime and keep dangerous substances off the streets.
