Jessie Levi Pumphrey, Insurance Fraud, West Virginia 2024

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a stunning blow to the insurance fraud underworld, Jessie Levi Pumphrey, 31, has been sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for his role in a sophisticated scam that involved staging vehicle accidents and submitting fraudulent claims.

The Harrison County native, from Clarksburg, was caught in a web of deceit along with associates who worked together to fabricate collisions in Preston County. Pumphrey’s involvement didn’t end there; he and his cohorts then filed false insurance claims for property damage and medical expenses, all the while pocketing the proceeds.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar led the prosecution against Pumphrey, whose actions were deemed a serious threat to honest citizens and the integrity of the insurance system. The investigation into this case was a joint effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner – Office of Inspector General.

Pumphrey’s sentence, handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh, serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who prey on the vulnerable and the public trust.

“The justice system has spoken,” said Cogar, “and it is clear that such criminal activities will not go unpunished.”

This sentence comes amidst a broader crackdown on insurance fraud in West Virginia, where authorities are committed to protecting consumers and restoring confidence to the industry. Pumphrey’s fate underscores the severity of his crimes and the commitment of law enforcement to uphold justice.
