A 39-year-old Kewa Pueblo man has been sentenced to federal prison for his conviction in a child sexual abuse case.
Quincy Coriz, a member and resident of Kewa Pueblo, N.M., was sentenced to 24 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for abusive sexual contact of a child under the age of 16.
Coriz will be required to register as a sex offender after completing his prison sentence.
The crime occurred in summer 2013 in Indian Country in Sandoval County, N.M.
Coriz was arrested on March 11, 2015 on an indictment charging him with abusive sexual contact.
On May 7, 2015, Coriz pled guilty to the indictment and admitted to sexually assaulting the victim by making sexual contact with the victim over the clothing.
The victim is a tribal member who was under the age of 16 but over the age of 12.
This case was investigated by the BIA’s office of Justice Services. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Adams as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Coriz’s sentencing is a significant step in holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes and bringing justice to the victims and their families.
