PITTSBURGH, PA – A Pittsburgh man was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for conspiring to distribute heroin and fentanyl, and for possessing those drugs with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a playground and a public housing facility.
Quinshawn Haynie, age 29 of Pittsburgh, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge David S. Cercone. Prior to imposing the sentence, the Court was informed that Haynie trafficked heroin and fentanyl close to playgrounds and public housing facilities in 2017 while he was on state parole following a 7-year to 14-year state prison sentence for a violent home invasion robbery he committed in 2007.
Haynie was charged with conspiring to distribute heroin and fentanyl, and for possessing those drugs with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a playground and a public housing facility.
The investigation leading to the convictions and sentence in this case was conducted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.
Assistant United States Attorneys Christy C. Wiegand and Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.
Haynie will serve six years of supervised release following his prison term. The sentencing took place on not specified date in United States District Court.
This case is a grim reminder of the dangers of heroin and fentanyl, and the devastating impact it can have on our communities. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives commend the bravery of the officers who worked tirelessly to bring this case to justice.
