Violence Grips Des Moines: Six Defendants Charged in Racketeering Indictment
DES MOINES, Iowa – In a shocking turn of events, six members and associates of the OTB Criminal Street Gang have been charged with a slew of violent crimes, including attempted murder in aid of racketeering, using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, felon in possession of a firearm, drug user in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and witness tampering.
The indictment, which was handed down by a federal grand jury, accuses the defendants of being involved in four separate shootings against rival gang members between May 2020 and December 2020. The shootings resulted in a string of violent crimes that have left the community reeling.
The defendants include Raekwon Malik Patton a/k/a Kwon and Nutt, Fabrece Jamar Bower Turner a/k/a Fab and Vell, Braden Craig Shafer a/k/a Stickup, Austin James Mallory, Yuri Perren Green Jr. a/k/a YG, and Jordan Marie Wilkerson.
According to the indictment, the OTB Street Gang is a criminal enterprise that engaged in racketeering activity, including offenses involving controlled substances and acts involving murder. The gang allegedly used violence to preserve and protect its profits and kept victims and witnesses in fear through threats of violence.
Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal and Des Moines Police Chief Dana Wingert made the announcement, stating that the community deserves to live free from the fear of violence and that the department will continue to make community safety a top priority.
The indictment is a significant blow to the OTB Street Gang and its members, who will now face the consequences of their actions. The case serves as a reminder that violent crime will not be tolerated in our community, and those who engage in such behavior will be held accountable.
The case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. The Des Moines Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies assisted in the investigation.
