Nicholas John Baker, a 35-year-old from Dubuque, Iowa, is headed to the big house for five years after getting pinched for illegally possessing a gun during a domestic dispute. The July 31, 2025, incident sparked a search of his home, where cops found a stolen gun with a 32-round magazine stashed in the attic.
Baker, a convicted felon with a 2014 rap sheet for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon in November 2025. On Monday, US District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the 60-month sentence, which includes a two-year term of supervised release.
Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative, is touting Baker’s case as a win for community safety. The case was investigated by the Dubuque Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep.
