Grimy Times has learned of a disturbing case involving Webster City man Martin Fye, who was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for a firearm conviction in August 2021. The conviction stems from a June 26, 2020, search of Fye’s residence, where law enforcement located several .22 caliber rounds in his pocket and a loaded .22 handgun in his bedroom nightstand.
According to court documents, Fye disobeyed law enforcement instructions and resisted detention during the search. The court also found that Fye fired a firearm on June 4, 2020, at a former girlfriend in anger after an argument when she left his residence. Additional evidence established that Fye had another person hide several firearms in a cornfield before law enforcement searched his home.
A search of Fye’s residence also yielded several items of drug paraphernalia in two search warrants. Fye admitted to being an unlawful drug user. Fye’s history of crime also includes previous convictions for burglary third degree in 2008 and 2014, and a felony controlled substance violation in 2008.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. PSN partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde prosecuted the case, which was investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Fye remains in custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison. He must serve three years of supervised release following his imprisonment. The case file number is 20-3024.
