Defendant Sentenced to Prison for Felon in Possession of Ammunition

In a shocking turn of events, a Davenport man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for Felon in Possession of Ammunition. Christopher Michael Screechfield, age 23, was handed down the sentence by United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose. The severe punishment also includes three years of supervised release to follow his prison term as well as a payment of $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.

The case began when officers responded to a residence in Davenport where Screechfield attempted to commit suicide and injured himself. Further investigation revealed that Screechfield was wanted for a supervised release violation by the United States Marshals Service. When officers took Screechfield into custody, he had three bullets in his possession. This reckless behavior ultimately led to the severe punishment he is now facing.

Screechfield had previously been convicted of possession of an unregistered firearm in March of 2018 and was sentenced to 42 months in prison with three years of supervised release to follow. However, due to the instant charge, his supervised release was revoked, and he was sentenced to serve 14 months in prison. That term was ordered to be served consecutive to the 24-month term imposed today.

According to court documents, Screechfield pleaded guilty to the charge on April 20, 2021. This guilty plea played a significant role in the severe punishment he is now facing. Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. The Davenport Police Department investigated the case.

Screechfield’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a complete lack of respect for the safety of those around him. As a society, we must take a stand against such reckless behavior and ensure that those who commit these crimes are held accountable. The 24-month prison sentence and three years of supervised release serve as a stern reminder of the consequences of such actions.

The Davenport Police Department and the United States Marshals Service are to be commended for their tireless efforts in investigating this case and bringing Screechfield to justice. Their dedication to keeping our communities safe is truly commendable.

As we move forward, it is essential that we continue to prioritize public safety and work towards creating a community where such reckless behavior is not tolerated. Only through our collective efforts can we ensure that our communities remain safe and secure.
