PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In a tough blow against gun violence, Raesean M. Wilson, 22, of Pittsburgh, was sentenced to 52 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to two violations of federal firearms laws. The sentence was imposed on June 18, 2024, by Chief United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak.
Wilson’s troubles began in March 2022 when he was convicted of a felony in Allegheny County Court. A prohibited possessor under federal law, Wilson was observed by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on September 21, 2022, with a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol and ammunition, leading to his first federal indictment.
On January 3, 2023, Wilson’s second brush with the law occurred when he was stopped for traffic violations. Troopers discovered he was in possession of a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol, loaded with an extended magazine and rounds, connected to drug trafficking activities involving fentanyl and methamphetamine. This offense led to his second federal indictment.
Assistant United States Attorney Carl J. Spindler prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan praised the efforts of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their role in Wilson’s successful prosecution.
This sentencing is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through community engagement and strategic enforcement. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN focuses on fostering trust, supporting prevention efforts, setting clear enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
