Rafael Cabrera, 35, Arrested at Carlisle Truck Stop
A New Jersey man was taken into custody at a truck stop in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on February 11, 2013, after federal and state agents seized a large quantity of heroin from his vehicle.
Rafael Cabrera, 35, of Passaic, New Jersey, is charged with possessing at least 100 grams of heroin with the intent to distribute it, as well as traveling in interstate commerce to distribute the drug.
According to the indictment, Cabrera’s vehicle was searched by federal and state agents, resulting in the alleged seizure of more than 3 ounces of heroin.
United States Attorney Peter J. Smith announced the indictment, stating that Cabrera faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years and up to a maximum of 40 years in prison if convicted.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police, with Assistant United States Attorney William A. Behe assigned to prosecute the case.
A sentence following a finding of guilty is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Cabrera faces a potential combined maximum fine of $1.25 million.
