Bank Robbery Rocks Puerto Rico: Rafael R. Navedo Jr. and Amir Adorno-Guishar Arrested

San Juan, PR – In a brazen daylight heist, Rafael R. Navedo Jr. and Amir Adorno-Guishar allegedly stole $25,210.00 from the Banco Popular de Puerto Rico in Vieques Branch on August 22. According to sources, the defendants, who were aiding and abetting each other, used force, violence, and intimidation to take the money.

The suspects were arrested by agents from the Police of Puerto Rico’s Bank Robbery Unit and the FBI on September 5. The indictment was unsealed after Adorno-Guishar’s arrest. If convicted, the duo faces up to 25 years in prison for the bank robbery charge and a minimum of 7 years to life in prison for the armed robbery charge. Fines of up to $250,000.00 are also possible.

The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa D. Bonano-Rodríguez. The FBI and Police of Puerto Rico’s Bank Robbery Unit led the investigation into the crime.

Rafael R. Navedo Jr., also known as “Pisi”, and Amir Adorno-Guishar are scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment and detention hearing on September 13, 2013, at 2:00pm.

Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
