Roger Pickett, Racketeering Conspiracy and Murder in Aid of Racketeering, New Jersey 2024

NEWARK, N.J. – The Marion Gardens street gang is reeling after a series of brutal sentences handed down by Judge Michael E. Farbiarz this June and July. U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced the culmination of years-long investigation and prosecution targeting the gang’s reign of terror in Newark and Jersey City. The message is clear: Newark won’t tolerate this level of violence.

The most severe penalty fell upon Roger Pickett, a/k/a “Zy G,” 24, who received four consecutive terms of life imprisonment for racketeering conspiracy and three counts of murder in aid of racketeering. These aren’t just numbers; each represents a life extinguished by gang violence. Pickett also faces an additional 50 years’ imprisonment – 20 years for Hobbs Act robbery and three ten-year terms for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. This man will die in prison.

But Pickett wasn’t alone. Javon Williams, a/k/a “J45,” 28, was sentenced to 57 months’ imprisonment for racketeering conspiracy, while Keith Anderson, a/k/a “Beef3,” 23, received 18 months for the same charge. Quaseame Wilson, a/k/a “Qua Gz,” 28, faces 195 months for racketeering conspiracy, Hobbs Act robbery, and aiding and abetting the discharge of a firearm. Anthony Rogers, a/k/a “MG,” 25, will spend 54 months behind bars on a racketeering conspiracy charge. These are the foot soldiers, the enablers, and they’re finally paying the price.

The crackdown began earlier in June. Myron Williams, a/k/a “Money,” a/k/a “Tunchi,” 31, of Newark, was slammed with two terms of life imprisonment for racketeering conspiracy and murder in aid of racketeering, plus 240 months for drug distribution and another 120 months for firearm charges – all consecutive. Jawaad Davis, 23, of Jersey City, received 170 months for orchestrating a robbery that escalated to murder. Khalil Kelley, a/k/a “Billski,” 26, of Jersey City, is also facing a life sentence plus ten years for racketeering conspiracy and a gang-related murder. The details of the murders are chilling, detailing calculated lures using Instagram to draw victims into deadly ambushes.

According to court documents, the Marion Gardens gang, operating out of the Marion Gardens Housing Complex since 2013, is responsible for at least three murders: on March 29, 2021, November 20, 2021, and November 1, 2022. The March 2021 murder involved luring a rival gang member with a fake Instagram message before opening fire. The November 20, 2021 murder mirrored the tactic. Davis’ role involved coordinating a drug deal that served as a setup for the third victim’s murder. These weren’t random acts of violence; they were cold, calculated executions.

The Justice Department isn’t finished. Three more individuals – Naim Richardson, a/k/a “Ninicks,” Andre Alomar, a/k/a “Dre8,” and Herbert Thomas – have already pled guilty and are awaiting sentencing before Judge Farbiarz. Richardson is scheduled for July 16th at 11:00 a.m., Alomar on July 24th at 10:00 a.m., and Thomas on October 1st at 2:00 p.m. This isn’t just about taking criminals off the street; it’s about dismantling a dangerous organization and sending a message to anyone considering a life of violence: you will be held accountable.
