GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a sweeping operation, seven suspects linked to a major firearms and narcotics trafficking ring were arrested in New York. Federal authorities unsealed a 23-count indictment charging the defendants with various offenses including firearms trafficking, conspiracy to traffic firearms, cocaine distribution, and possession with intent to distribute.
John Donaldson, Juanita Figueroa, Ronald Jackson, Nicholas Willacy, Marcus Dyce, Lonney Walker, and Coty Harley were all taken into custody. They are scheduled to face arraignment in New York and Missouri this afternoon and tomorrow, respectively.
The suspects are accused of selling a significant number of pistols, rifles, and bags of crack cocaine across Staten Island, New Jersey, and the Bronx. According to authorities, they operated a national trafficking network that imported 37 firearms into the tristate region, including assault-style rifles and extended magazines.
Joseph Nocella, Jr., Christopher G. Raia, and Jessica S. Tisch announced the charges, emphasizing the threat these illegal activities pose to public safety. ‘Their alleged criminal behavior unnecessarily introduced deadly weapons and drugs into our communities, posing a significant threat to the lives of the surrounding public unaware of these illegal transactions,’ said Raia.
Further investigation revealed that some of the firearms were transported from South Carolina to New York. The suspects have been traced to multiple southern states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Texas, and Georgia. The weapons include AR-15 style rifles, shotguns, pistols, semiautomatics, and extended magazines.
The NYPD’s Commissioner Tisch highlighted the efforts of law enforcement in dismantling these criminal networks. ‘I am grateful to the NYPD investigators and our partners at the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for putting a stop to this dangerous pipeline,’ she stated.
