RALEIGH, N.C. — Six men stand accused in a chilling plot of kidnapping and robbery that has terrorized the city. A federal grand jury indicted Mario Scott, Tyferia Shakur Sherrod, Donta Lamont Bush Jr., Hasheem Langston, Quest Jaquan Davis, and Deivon Jalil Spidle on charges including conspiracy to kidnap, Hobbs Act robbery, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
“Our partnership with federal agencies has been instrumental in targeting the most dangerous criminals,” declared U.S. Attorney Michael Easley. “We’re sending a message: violent crime won’t be tolerated in Raleigh.”
The victims were targeted using a GPS tracking device attached to their vehicle, setting the stage for a night of terror on January 15, 2024. The conspirators held the victim at gunpoint, stole jewelry and cash, and subjected him to unimaginable折磨 during the kidnapping.
Chief Estella Patterson of the Raleigh Police Department echoed Easley’s sentiments: “We stand united against those who threaten our citizens’ safety. This case is a testament to our unwavering commitment to justice.”
The defendants face life sentences if convicted as charged, with Davis and Spidle also facing additional charges related to drug trafficking and firearm possession by a felon.
U.S. Attorney Easley’s announcement of the Violent Crime Action Plan (VCAP) in 2022 marked a new era in combatting crime in Raleigh. Today, the city is one step closer to eradicating violent crime from its streets.
