RALEIGH, N.C. — Jeremiah Williams, a 40-year-old resident of Raleigh, has been dealt a severe blow to his criminal career after being sentenced to 174 months in federal prison for trafficking cocaine. The sentence was further enhanced by an additional 36 months for violating supervised release, totaling 210 months behind bars.
“The distribution of cocaine and other dangerous drugs has no place in our community,” said Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson. “Our department is committed to stopping the flow of these substances and protecting our neighborhoods from habitual offenders like Williams.”
The case against Williams began in March 2021 when the Raleigh Police Department (RPD) received a tip that “Dirty” was selling crack cocaine. A confidential informant met with Williams at a fast-food restaurant, where they conducted a recorded drug sale. Another transaction was set up and recorded at an apartment complex.
Williams attempted to flee during his arrest but was captured after throwing a bag of crack cocaine on the ground. The subsequent search led to the seizure of 26.8 grams of cocaine, 4.78 grams of crack cocaine, 17.7 grams of marijuana, cash, and a digital scale. Williams confessed to selling drugs at the time of his arrest.
Further investigation revealed Williams’s extensive criminal history, including previous convictions for drug trafficking and assault, and highlighted his role as a distributor in the community. His latest offense came after only six months’ release from federal prison.
The court allowed Williams a furlough to attend a family member’s funeral while he awaited trial, but upon his return, he was discovered to have swallowed marijuana, which had to be surgically removed. U.S. Attorney Michael Easley announced the sentencing following the case’s prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer C. Nucci.
