Restaurant Robber Sentenced to 35 1/2 Years in Prison
PHILADELPHIA – In a shocking turn of events, Ramon Martinez, 29, of Philadelphia, PA, was sentenced to 35½ years in prison for a string of armed robberies in Philadelphia.
The crimes, which took place in December 2013, targeted three Cosi, Inc. restaurants, leaving a trail of destruction and fear in its wake.
The first robbery occurred on December 3, 2013 at the Cosi at 235 S. 15th Street, where Martinez made off with approximately $1600. Less than a week later, on December 9, 2013, he attempted to rob the Cosi at 140 S. 36th Street.
The final blow came on December 24, 2013, when Martinez robbed the Cosi at 235 S. 15th Street again, this time making off with approximately $2300.
It was a daring heist, but one that ultimately led to Martinez’s downfall. He pleaded guilty on March 24, 2014, and now faces the music for his crimes.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Legrome D. Davis ordered five years supervised release, a $2,000 fine, a $500 special assessment, and $3,900 restitution.
This case was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Philadelphia Police Department, and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ewald Zittlau.
