Randall Cornell Mack, Murder, Washington 2025

A previously convicted murderer has been re-arrested and arraigned for his alleged role in the killing of an elderly man in Washington, D.C. Randall Cornell Mack, 42, was arrested on September 2, 2025, and appeared before Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman the following day, where he pleaded not guilty.

Mack, along with his co-defendant Phillip Palmer, was indicted on August 6, 2025, for their alleged involvement in the May 2, 2025, killing of Steven Stewart. According to the government’s evidence, Mack and Palmer entered Stewart’s apartment, robbed him, and then shot him multiple times at close range.

Stewart, 61, was a vulnerable victim who relied on a wheelchair and/or walker for trips beyond his apartment. Mack has a previous murder conviction from 2010, where his probation was revoked in 2011, and he was sentenced to 12-36 years. He was paroled in 2019 and was set to be supervised through 2037.

Joining in the announcement was Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department, who stated that this case is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Dinan.

An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

A detention hearing is set for September 19, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for both Mack and Palmer.
