Randall Womble Smith, Receipt of Child Pornography, North Carolina 2021

A Cary man has been sentenced to 165 months in prison for his role in a child pornography case, authorities announced.

According to court documents, Randall Womble Smith, 66, pleaded guilty to Receipt of Child Pornography on February 19, 2021.

Smith, the owner of Plastic Tooling Corporation in Cary, admitted to downloading and possessing child pornography when law enforcement arrived at his business on a search warrant.

During the search, investigators found nearly 9,000 images and videos of child pornography on Smith’s digital devices.

The Cary Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security investigated the case, which was part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charity Wilson prosecuted the case.

Chief U.S. District Judge Richard E. Myers II handed down the sentence. The Cary Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security investigated the case.
