Rapid City Man Sentenced for Stealing Firearms

A Rapid City man was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment for his role in a brazen firearms theft from a local pawn shop.

Joshua Clark, 28, was convicted of Theft of Firearms and sentenced by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, on April 21, 2016.

Clark and an accomplice stole several firearms from a Rapid City pawn shop, leaving a trail of destruction and fear in their wake.

Clark was charged on August 18, 2015, and pleaded guilty to the crime on December 11, 2015. The conviction is a stark reminder that gun theft will not be tolerated in our community.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ben Patterson prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Rapid City Police Department, and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

Clark was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence. He was also handed three years of supervised release.

Rapid City residents can rest a little easier knowing that the culprits behind this egregious crime are being held accountable. Joshua Clark was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
