Rapid City Man Sentenced on Firearm Charge
A Rapid City man, Keanu Dillon, was sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.
29-year-old Dillon was convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on July 19, 2021.
In April 2020, law enforcement in Rapid City found a Taurus, model 856, .38 Special caliber, double-action revolver in Dillon’s possession, despite being a previously convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Dillon was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and will serve 3 years of supervised release following his prison term.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime through cooperative efforts between law enforcement and community stakeholders.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and the Black Hills Fugitive Taskforce, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
Dillon was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
