A Toledo man is facing more than nine years behind bars for his role in a heroin and firearms operation. Rashaad J. Doyle, age 30, was sentenced to 100 months imprisonment for possessing with intent to distribute approximately 350 grams of heroin and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The sentence was handed down by United States Senior District Judge James G. Carr, following a two-count indictment against Doyle on October 17, 2012. The indictment stemmed from the seizure of heroin and a rifle recovered from Doyle’s residence on September 21, 2012.
Doyle was forbidden by law from having a firearm due to previous convictions in Lucas County Common Pleas Court for possession of marijuana, aggravated assault and having weapons while under disability. Despite this, Doyle was found to be in possession of a firearm, leading to the additional charge.
The case against Doyle was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Toledo Police Department and the Toledo Metro Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Thomas P. Weldon and Matthew Spaulding prosecuted the case, which was announced by Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, and Stephen D. Anthony, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Cleveland office.
The sentence is a significant blow to heroin trafficking in the Toledo area. Heroin has been a major problem in the city, with many overdoses and deaths attributed to the drug. The sentencing of Doyle is a step towards reducing the availability of heroin on the streets and making the community safer.
The investigation and prosecution of Doyle are part of a larger effort to combat drug trafficking and firearms crimes in the Northern District of Ohio.
