Rasmieh Yousef Odeh, Citizenship Fraud, Illinois 2024

Chicago resident and convicted terrorist Rasmieh Yousef Odeh, 69, pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship by lying on her application. Odeh was previously convicted for participation in the 1969 bombings of a supermarket and the British Consulate in Jerusalem.

Odeh, who has lived in the United States for 22 years, was stripped of her citizenship and faces deportation back to Jordan after sentencing. The plea agreement avoids imprisonment but requires removal from the U.S.

Acting U.S. Attorney Daniel Lemisch announced Odeh’s conviction, noting that her fraudulent actions put national security at risk. Special Agent in Charge Steve Francis of HSI Detroit emphasized the importance of honesty in immigration documents to maintain public safety.

Odeh admitted intentionally omitting her Israeli arrest and imprisonment from her naturalization application, knowing it was unlawful to provide false information. She claimed PTSD as a defense in previous court proceedings but did not do so during her plea hearing.

Sentencing for Odeh is set for August 17, 2017. The investigation leading to her conviction was lauded by Lemisch, with particular credit given to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Tukel and Special Agent Stephen A. Webber of ICE HSI.
