Raul Cruz, 37, Sentenced to Prison for Credit Card Fraud

Orlando, FL – In a shocking case of credit card fraud, Raul Cruz, a 37-year-old Hialeah man, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for operating a fraudulent website selling Walt Disney World tickets.

According to court documents, Cruz purchased Walt Disney World Co. theme park tickets over the phone using stolen credit card numbers that he had purchased from business owners in South Florida.

Cruz then created a shell company called ‘Disney Computer SE’ and a website (www.disneycomputerservice.com), both of which utilized the name ‘Disney’ to give the appearance of legitimacy. Using the website and shell company, Cruz resold the tickets to the public.

During the course of the fraudulent scheme, Cruz purchased over $159,000 worth of Walt Disney World Co. tickets. The scheme was uncovered by the United States Secret Service, and Cruz pleaded guilty on August 26, 2014.

As part of his sentence, the Court also entered a money judgment in the amount of $159,219.94, the proceeds of the fraud. U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharp handed down the sentence, which brings an end to a lengthy investigation and prosecution.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Irick, who praised the efforts of the United States Secret Service in uncovering the scheme.

Cruz’s sentence sends a strong message that credit card fraud will not be tolerated in the state of Florida. The public is urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
