Pittsburgh Man Gets 5 Years in Prison for Heroin Trafficking and Gun Possession

A 20-year-old Pittsburgh resident has been sentenced to five years in prison for his convictions of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the United States Attorney David J. Hickton.

Raymear Jernigan was sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh by Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose. The court heard that on or about October 17, 2014, after having been convicted of a felony drug offense, Jernigan possessed a Taurus, .38 special revolver and over 200 grams of heroin with the intent to distribute it.

Assistant United States Attorney Tonya Sulia Goodman prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Greater Pittsburgh Safe Streets Task Force and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Jernigan.

The sentence highlights the seriousness of the offenses, Judge Ambrose stated. The charges against Jernigan include felony drug offense and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
