St. Louis Man Admits Selling Fentanyl to Pregnant Woman
A devastating crime that shook the St. Louis community has come to a close with the guilty plea of Raymond Blankenship, a 27-year-old man from St. Louis County. On September 17, 2018, Blankenship sold fentanyl capsules to a pregnant woman, who tragically died later that day due to acute fentanyl intoxication.
The woman had arranged to purchase the drug via Facebook messages with Blankenship, who initially claimed to be out of the painkiller Percocet but promised to call someone else to see if they had any available. In a shocking turn of events, St. Louis County police detectives posed as the woman and arranged to buy more fentanyl from Blankenship, only to have him run and swallow some of the capsules containing the deadly drug.
Blankenship was indicted on June 23, 2021, and is currently awaiting sentencing in September. The case was investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department.
Raymond Blankenship, 27, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to a felony charge of distribution of fentanyl. He admitted in his plea agreement that he sold fentanyl capsules to a St. Louis County woman on Sept. 17, 2018.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was a pregnant woman who lost her life due to Blankenship’s actions. The community is still reeling from the aftermath of this tragedy, and justice is finally being served with Blankenship’s guilty plea.
As a society, we must come together to prevent such senseless crimes from happening in the future. The distribution of fentanyl is a serious issue that requires immediate attention and action. We hope that Blankenship’s sentencing will serve as a deterrent to others who would engage in similar activities.
