Raymond Lugo, Child Pornography Production and Distribution, Florida 2012

A heinous crime has shaken the community of Fort Myers, Florida, as Raymond Lugo, a 38-year-old resident of Punta Gorda, was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for producing child pornography.

The court also ordered Lugo to forfeit his computers and camera, which are linked to the proceeds of the offense. Lugo pleaded guilty on October 31, 2012.

According to court documents, Lugo victimized an approximately 2-year-old child on multiple occasions for the purpose of producing child pornography photographs. The disturbing images depicted Lugo sexually molesting the child, which he then traded with others in exchange for other child pornography images.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated this despicable case, and Assistant United States Attorney Tama Koss Caldarone prosecuted the matter.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Raymond Lugo’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes. The production and distribution of such material can have devastating consequences for the victims and their families. It is imperative that we continue to work towards creating a safer online environment for our children.
