DeLand Man Sentenced to 16 Years for Producing Child Pornography
Orlando, Florida – A Volusia County man has been sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in federal prison for producing child pornography, announced the Justice.gov in a press release.
On May 5, 2014, William A. Harvey, 50, of DeLand, produced child pornography at his residence involving a 16-year-old autistic girl. The victim was subjected to sexually explicit conduct, and Harvey took several photographs using a purple camera.
The victim reported the incident to someone the following day, and law enforcement was contacted. A search warrant was executed at Harvey’s residence, where officers found a computer and an external hard drive in his bedroom. A forensic examination revealed 20 pornographic images of the victim.
Harvey pleaded guilty on March 31, 2015. He was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Anne C. Conway to 16 years and 8 months in federal prison. He is also required to serve a life term of supervision following his release from prison.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the DeLand Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
