Bank Robber Sentenced to 5 Years in Federal Prison in Pittsburgh, PA

A former resident of Clairton, PA, has been sentenced in federal court to 60 months of incarceration followed by three years of supervised release on his conviction of two counts of bank robbery, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced today.

United States District Judge David Cercone imposed the sentence yesterday on Raymond Zwibel, age 46, for stealing $3,700 from the First Commonwealth Bank in New Alexandria, PA on August 19, 2013 and acting as the getaway driver for co-defendant Matthew Stanley who stole $2,413 from the Citizens Bank in Latrobe, PA on August 23, 2013.

According to information presented to the court, Zwibel continued to commit numerous crimes as a result of his heroin addiction. His addiction made him like Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, as noted by Judge Cercone.

Assistant United States Attorney Ross E. Lenhardt prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Brady commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of both Zwibel and Stanley.

Stanley recently pleaded guilty on September 6, 2018 and is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Cercone on February 1, 2019 at 11:30 a.m.

With his conviction, Zwibel will serve 60 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing crimes related to financial institutions.
